In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Beggars Bridge like this:
BEGGAR'S BRIDGE, a handsome, one-arched bridge on the river Esk, 1½ mile W of Egdon, N. R. Yorkshire. The erection of it is ascribed to a romantic love incident; and the scene around it is often visited by pleasure parties.
Beggars Bridge is now part of NORTH YORKSHIRE Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how NORTH YORKSHIRE has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Beggars Bridge itself, go to Statistics.
