In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Drakeholes like this:
DRAKELOW, a place near the Roman road to Littleborough, the river Idle, and the Chesterfield canal, 3¼ miles SE of Bawtry, in Notts. Roman coins and other Roman relics have been found here.
Drakeholes is now part of BASSETLAW District. Click here for graphs and data of how BASSETLAW has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Drakeholes itself, go to Statistics.
