In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Ditchley like this:
DITCHLEY, a hamlet in Spelsbury parish, Oxford; 4½ miles NW of Woodstock. Pop., 47. Wilmot, Lord Rochester, was a native. Ditchley Park, the seat of Viscount Dillon, is a fine edifice by Gibbs; contains some old tapestry and interesting pictures: and figures in Sir Walter Scott's novel of Woodstock.
Ditchley is now part of WEST OXFORDSHIRE District. Click here for graphs and data of how WEST OXFORDSHIRE has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Ditchley itself, go to Statistics.
