In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Medley like this:

MEDLEY, anciently MEDELEY, a place in Oxfordshire; on the river Thames, 2 miles NNW of Oxford. 1t had a country seat of the priors of Oseny. It was the place where Henry II. ment Rosamond, when a nun at. Godstone; and it figures, as follows, in the poems of Withers,-

In summer-time to Medley
My love and I would go;
The boatmen there stood ready
My love and me to row.
