In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Bescot like this:
BESCOT, a station on the South Staffordshire railway, 1½ mile S of Walsall. Bescot Hall, in the vicinity, is an old moated edifice, on the site of an ancient seat of the Hillarys and the Mountforts; and commands a fine view.
