In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Nantgaredig like this:

NANTGAREDIG, a village in the centre of Carmarthenshire; adjacent to the river Towy, and to the Vale of Towy railway, 6½ miles E by N of Carmarthen. It has a station on the railway, and a post-office under Carmarthen.
