In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Badbury like this:
BADBURY, a tything in Chisledon parish, Wilts; 3½ miles SE of Swindon. Pop., 395. An ancient camp here, called Badbury or Siddington Castle, is supposed to be the Mons Bodonicus of the Romans, and the Bad diebrigg of the Saxons; and was the scene, in 520, of King Arthur's defeat of Cerdic.
