In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Bradford Leigh like this:

LEIGH, a village and a tything in Great Bradford parish, Wilts. The village stands 2 miles NE of Bradford, and is considerable. The tything bears the name of Leigh and Woolley. Pop. in 1831,1,680; in 1851, 1,377. Houses, 292.
