In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Salt Hill like this:
SALT-HILL, a village in Farnham-Royal and Stoke-Poges parishes, Bucks; adjacent to the W extremity of Slough. It is prettily situated; has a large family hotel and some good residences; and was the scene of the Eton" Ad Montem."
