In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Wrenthorpe like this:
WRENTHORPE, a hamlet, with a r. station, in Wakefield parish, W. R. Yorkshire; on the Leeds and Wakefield railway, 2 miles NNE of Wakefield.
