In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Middlestown like this:
MIDDLESTOWN, a village in Shitlington township, Thornhill parish, W. R. Yorkshire; near the river C alder, 3 miles SE by S of Dewsbury. It has a post office under Wakefield.
Middlestown is now part of WAKEFIELD District. Click here for graphs and data of how WAKEFIELD has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Middlestown itself, go to Statistics.
