In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described St Margaret like this:
MARGARET (ST.), a village within the borough of Marlborough, in Wilts; on the river Kennet, opposite Marlborough. A Gilbertine priory was founded here before the time of King John; and was given, at the dissolution, to the Stringers.
St Margaret is now part of WILTSHIRE Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how WILTSHIRE has changed over two centuries. For statistics about St Margaret itself, go to Statistics.
