In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Newbridge like this:
NEWBRIDGE, a fine spot on the river Tamar, at the boundary between Devon and Cornwall; 3½ miles W S W of Tavistock. It takes its name from a picturesquebridge over the river.
Newbridge is now part of WEST DEVON District. Click here for graphs and data of how WEST DEVON has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Newbridge itself, go to Statistics.
