In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Boot like this:
BOUT, a village in Eskdale, Cumberland; 7 miles ENE of Ravenglass. It has an inn, and is in the vicinity of waterfalls and other attractions on the way up Eskdale to the mountain passes into Wastdale-Head, Langdale, and Duddon vale.
Boot is now part of CUMBERLAND Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how CUMBERLAND has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Boot itself, go to Statistics.
