In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Miterdale like this:
MITERDALE, the vale of the rivulet Mite, in Cumberland. Its upper part is separated from Wastdale by Latterbarrow fell, and from Eskdale by Bleaberry-Taru fell; its central part, immediately below these fells, is crossed by the road from Santon-Bridge to Bout and Ulpha; and the left side of its lower part is separated from Eskdale by Muncaster fell.
Miterdale is now part of CUMBERLAND Unitary Authority. Click here for graphs and data of how CUMBERLAND has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Miterdale itself, go to Statistics.
