In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Octon like this:
OCTON and OCTON-GRANGE, two townships in Thwing parish, E. R. Yorkshire; 7½ miles N of Great Driffield. Pop., 105. Octon Lodge is the seat of the Pricketts. A double camp, 330 feet long and 240 feetwide, is in Octon Grange; and was divided by the Quintana, or street of suttlers.
