In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Neath Abbey like this:
NEATH ABBEY, a village in Dyffryn-Clydach hamlet, Cadoxton parish, Glamorgan; at the ruins of Neath abbey, adjacent to the Vale of Neath railway, ½a mile N by W of Neath. It has a station on the railway.
