In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Mount Pleasant like this:

MOUNT-PLEASANT, a village in the centre of Durhamshire; 1 mile W of Spennymoor r. station, and 4 W N W of Ferryhill. It has a post-office under Ferryhill, and a United Presbyterian church.
