In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Sarn like this:
SARN, or Sarn-Meyllteyrn, a village in Meyllteyrn parish, Carnarvon; at a meeting-point of six roads, 9 miles W by S of Pwllheli. It has a post-office under Pwllheli, and a fair on 27 June.
