In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Howey like this:
HOWEY, a village in Disserth parish, Radnor; near the river Ython, 5½ miles N of Builth. It has a postoffice under Builth, and fairs on the Saturday before 11 Feb. and 11 May.
