In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Wheatley like this:
WHEATLEY, a village in Ovenden township, W. R. Yorkshire; 1½ mile NW of Ovenden village. It has worsted mills, bleaching-works, and dye-houses.
