In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Winnington like this:
Winnington, vil., on W. border of Shropshire, 13 miles W. of Shrewsbury; was the birthplace of Thomas Parr ("Old Parr"), who is said to have attained the age of 152.
