In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Six Mile Bottom like this:
SIX-MILE-BOTTOM, a r. station in Cambridgeshire; on the Cambridge and Newmarket railway, 7½ miles E of Cambridge.
