In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Kilbagie like this:
Kilbagie, a place with large pulp and fibre works, for the manufacture of paper, in Clackmannan parish, Clackmannanshire, 1 ½ mile N of Kincardine. Near it is Kilbagie House.
