In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Boyleston like this:
BOYLSTONE, a parish in the district of Uttoxeter, and county of Derby; on an affluent of the river Dove, 3¾ miles N by W of Scropton r. station, and 7 S of Ashborne. Post Town, Cubley, under Derby. Acres, 1,360. Real property, £2,660. Pop., 268. Houses, 61. The property is divided among a few. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lichfield. Value, £260.* Patron, the Rev. Tansley Hall. The church is very good.
