In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tulla like this:
Tulla, rivulet and loch, Glenorchy and Inishail par., Argyllshire; the rivulet flows 11 miles SW. to Loch Tulla, 7 miles NW. of Tyndrum; the loch is 2 miles long, and discharges the river Orchy.
