In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Pinkie like this:
Pinkie House, seat, Inveresk par., Edinburghshire, in E. vicinity of Musselburgh; the battle of Pinkie, where the English, under the Duke of Somerset, defeated the Scots, was fought in 1547.
