In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lochindorb like this:
Lochindorb, loch, on border of Cromdale and Edinkillie pars., Elginshire; is 2 miles long, and contains an island with ruins of a castle of time of Edward I.; on E. side of loch, 3 miles SW. of Dava sta., is Lochindorb Lodge.
