In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Kilmademoge like this:
KILMODUMOGE, a parish, in the barony of FASSADINING, county of KILKENNY, and province of LEINSTER, 5 ¼ miles (S. by W.) from Castlecomer; containing 985 inhabitants. It is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Ossory, forming part of the union of Mothell; the tithes amount to £157. 14. In the R. C. divisions it is part of the union or district of Muckalee. About 30 children are educated in a private school.
