In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Castlehaven like this:

Castlehaven, par. and vil. with harb., SW. co. Cork, 5 miles SE. of Skibbereen ry. sta., 10,542 ac., pop. 3492. Off the coast are the rocks called the Stags of Castlehaven.
