In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Glenarm like this:

Glenarm, small seaport town, Tickmacrevan par., E. co. Antrim, beautifully situated on Glenarm Bay and at the mouth of Glenarm rivulet, 11 miles NW. of Larne, pop. 1276; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Owing to the attractive scenery there is a large influx of visitors during the summer months. The harbour is small; limestone and iron-ore are exported. In the vicinity is Glenarm Castle, seat of the Earl of Antrim.
