In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Clementstown like this:
CLEMENTSTOWN, a village, in the parish of ASHFIELD, barony of TULLAGHGARVEY, county of CAVAN, and province of ULSTER, ¾ of a mile (N. N. W.) from Cootehill; containing 182 inhabitants. This place derived its name from its proprietor, Colonel Clements: it is situated on the road from Cootehill to Red hills and Belturbet, and contains 44 houses. Here is a good stone bridge of four arches, crossing the Cootehill river from Bellamont forest to Lough Erne.
