In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Oritor like this:
ORITOR, a village, in the parish of KILDRESS, barony of DUNGANNON, county of TYRONE, and province of ULSTER, 3 miles (W.) from Cookstown, on the road from Omagh to Belfast; the population is returned with the parish. The village comprises 22 houses; fairs are held here on the second Wednesday in July, Aug. ...
3rd, Oct. 10th, and the third Wednesday in Nov., for cattle, sheep and pigs. A court for the manor of Oritor is held on the first Monday in each month, for the recovery of debts under 40s: its jurisdiction extends over 12 townlands in the parish of Kildress, which were granted by Jas. I. to the Annesley family, and are now the property of Lord Castle-Steuart. Here is a large Presbyterian meeting-house, erected in 1825.
Oritor is now part of MID ULSTER District. Click here for graphs and data of how MID ULSTER has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Oritor itself, go to Statistics.
