In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Fethard like this:

Fethard, coast par. and vil., S. co. Wexford, on Fethard Bay, 16 miles SE. of Waterford--par., 3929 ac., pop. 1291; vil., pop. 263; P.O., T.O. The vil. is resorted to for sea-bathing.
