In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Taghmon like this:
Taghmon, small market town and par., in co. and 9 miles W. of Wexford - par., 10,124 ac., pop. 1845; town, pop. 618; P.O., T.O. Market-day, Monday. Taghmon has good markets for butter, poultry, &c., and important fairs. In the centre of the town are the remains of an ancient castle.
