In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Glenties like this:
Glenties, vil., Inishkeel par., W. co. Donegal, on river Owenea, 26 miles W. of Stranorlar ry. sta., pol. 487; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Monday. The mfr. of tweeds, flannels, and hand-knit hosiery gives employment to many families of the vil. and district.
