In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Mooncoin like this:

Mooncoin, vil., Pollrone par., S. co. Kilkenny, near river Suir, 4 miles SE. of Fiddown ry. sta. and 7 miles NW. of Waterford, pop. 644; P.O., called Moincoin.
