In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Curraghmore like this:

Curraghmore, seat of the Marquis of Waterford, near Portlaw, N. co. Waterford, 5 miles SE. of Carrick-on-Suir; includes part of the old castle, and has a park of 5000 acres.
