In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Saltee Islands like this:

Saltee Islands, Great and Little, Kilmore par., S. co. Wexford, 10 miles SW. of Carnsore Point - Great Saltee, 215 ac., pop. 13; Little Saltee, 93 ac., pop. 5; a light-vessel is moored off CONINGBEG ROCK: which see.
