In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kinneigh like this:
Kinneigh, par., S. co. Cork, on river Bandon, 6 miles NE. of Dunmanway, 15095 ac., pop. 3046; contains Enniskean, vil. with ry. sta. A round tower, 75 ft. high, is situated on the N. bank of the Bandon.
