In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Kilconierin like this:
KILCONERAN, a parish, partly in the baronies of ATHENRY and LOUGHREA, but chiefly in that of DUNKELLIN, county of GALWAY, and province of CONNAUGHT, 3 miles (N. W. by N.) from Loughrea, on the road from that place to Galway; containing 1360 inhabitants. It comprises 4907 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and about 500 of bog. ...
Lurgan is the seat of H. Gore Daly, Esq. The parish is in the diocese of Clonfert; the rectory is appropriate to the bishoprick and the deanery, and the vicarage forms part of the union of Kilconickny. The tithes amount to £140. 3. 4 ½., of which £15. 15. 8 ¼. is payable to the bishop, £4. 12. 3 ¾. to the dean, and the remainder to the vicar. In the R. C. divisions it forms part of the district of Carrabawn, or Lickerrig, and contains a chapel. About 100 children are educated in a public school. Here are the ruins of Seafin Castle.
