In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Doneraile like this:

Doneraile, market town and par., N. co. Cork, on river Awbeg, 5 miles SE. of Buttevant ry. sta. and 138 SW. of Dublin -- par., 20,441 ac., pop. 3208; town, pop. 1208; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Saturday; in the vicinity is D. Park, seat of Viscount Doneraile.
