In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tallow like this:

Tallow, market town and par., W. co. Waterford, on river Bride, 2½ miles S. of Tallow Road ry. sta. and 5 miles SW. of Lismore - par., 5014 ac., pop. 1847; town, pop. 1232; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. Tallow has some woollen mfrs.
