In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Sidestrand like this:
SIDESTRAND, or Syderstrand, a parish in Erpingham district, Norfolk; on the coast, 7 miles N by W of North Walsham r. station. Post town, Cromer, under Norwich. Acres, 560; of which 115 are water. Real property, £819. Pop., 145. Houses, 39. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £100.* Patron, alternately the Duchy of Lancaster and J. G. Hoare, Esq. The church is good.
