In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Kirkbride like this:
KIRKBRIDE, a parish in Wigton district, Cumberland; at the influx of the Wampool river to Morecambe bay, and on the Carlisle and Silloth railway, 5½ miles NNW of Wigton. It has a station on the railway; and its post townis Wigton. Acres, 1, 654; of which 50 are water. Real property, £1, 929. Pop., 311. Houses, 66. The property is much subdivided. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Carlisle. Value, £230.* Patron, the Earl of Lonsdale. The church is good.
