In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Allestree like this:
ALLESTREE, a parish in Belper district, Derby; near Derwent river and the Midland railway, 2 miles N of Derby. Post Town, Derby. Acres, 990. Real property, £3,058 Pop., 529. Houses, 106. The property is divided among a few. The chief residences are Allestree Hall and Markeaton. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield. Value, £54.* Patron, not reported. The church is ancient, contains tombs of the Mundys, and is very good. There are a Wesleyan chapel, and charities £32.
