In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Waxham like this:
WAXHAM, a parish in Tunstead district, Norfolk; on the coast, 11 miles ESE of North Walsham r. station. Post town, Stalham, under Norwich. Acres, 2,087; of which 125 are water. Real property, £2,493. Pop., 75. Houses, 14. The living is a rectory, united with Palling, in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £330. Patron, H. J. Conyers, Esq. The church is ancient.
