In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Tangley like this:
TANGLEY, a parish in Andover district, Hants; 4¼ miles NNW of Andover r. station. Post town, Andover. Acres, 1,561. Real property, £1,844. Pop., 270. Houses, 60. The living is a p. curacy, annexed to Faccombe. The church is good. A fair is held on 15 April.
