In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Glapwell like this:
GLAPWELL, a township in Bolsover parish, Derby; 5½ miles NW of Mansfield. Acres, 720. Real property, £1, 950. Pop., 103. Houses, 17. Glapwell Hall is the seat of the Hallowes family. There was once a chapel here, under Darling abbey.
