In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Dinham like this:
DINHAM, a hamlet in Llanvair-Discoed parish, Monmouth; 3½ miles WSW of Chepstow. Acres, 670. Real property, £626. Pop., 37. Houses, 7. Some remains of an ancient castle, almost hidden by wood, are on a rising-ground.
